Overwintering Tips
Overwintering Plants Tips From a Few of Our Seasoned Club Gardeners:
From Karen Shapiro
Dig out plants now and pot them up for our spring plant sale!
-It’s a great time to divide your perennials as they’ll fill out nicely in a pot in spring.
-Tuck the pots away in an area of your yard that is somewhat protected from the
wind. Tuck the pots closely together for added protection.
-Some suggest tipping the pots at a slight angle to avoid them getting soggy.
-Cover all the pots with a loose layer of leaves or mulch to protect against wind
damage and freezing/thawing cycles. You could place in garage or cool basement
as well.
-Be sure to uncover your pots early in the spring, when the danger of freezing
weather is past.
-Move them to a sunny spot so that they don’t get too leggy reaching for light.
-They will fill out nicely in their established pots in plenty of time for our plant sale!
